Halloween Cup Meta

Since there are many pokemons available in the Halloween Cup, we will not introduce them one by one this time. We will only introduce the particularly strong or unique pokemons. The other strong pokemons are listed in the table for players’ reference.

Fairy Type

Among the fairy pokemons, the one that cannot be ignored is Carbink. Considering that it can perform well in the Open Great League full of steel and grass types, it is not difficult to imagine what it will do in the Halloween Cup that lacks these type suppressions. Regardless of whether the player intends to use Carbink or not, Carbink will definitely be the pokemon that players need to target when forming a team.

In addition, Weezing and Tapu Fini are also good fairy-type pokemons. Weezing's Brutal Swing gives it the ability to fight against ghosts. Tapu Fini is a fairy pokemon which is not afraid of steel because of the steel resistance provided by the water type. It will have a good effect against opponents such as the Scizor.

Poison Type

The three most noteworthy pokemons among the Poison types are Golbat, Toxapex, and Nidoqueen. Because of its charged move, Shadow Ball, Golbat has overcome the resistance to ghosts and has become a poison-type pokemon with the ability to counterattack ghosts. Although Toxapex doesn't have very good moves coverage in the Halloween Cup, it is so bulky to make it win lots of battles. Nidoqueen's combination of poison and ground allows it to perfectly suppress the powerful Carbink, Toxapex and other pokemons. If you plan to counterattack Carbink as the core of your team, be sure to bring Nidoqueen with you.

On the first day of the Halloween Cup, Toxicroak was surprisingly used by many people. Its unique feature is that its moveset can counter dark, poison, and fairies at the same time. The coverage is quite wide. However, it has a big flaw when fighting against the ghost type, be sure to choose teammates who can counter ghosts when using it.

Qwilfish and Overqwil are also pokemons with a wide range of coverage. Their shadow balls can be used to deal with ghosts. Although water tail has low damage, it may not be able to defeat opponents such as Carbink and Nidoqueen, but it is enough to prevent the opponent beating too easily and farm so much energy. Therefore, Qwilfish and Overqwil have become the best candidates to be used as safe switches.

Swalot should be a pokemon that Meta players pay less attention to. Its characteristic is that it is as bulky as Medicham, which seems like a tank. Moreover, the Icebeam in its moveset can not only beat the opponent with great difficulty. It is very useful in countering opponents such as Golbat, Nidoqueen, and Mandibuzz. It is recommended for Meta players who want to use some uncommon pokemon.

Ghost Type

Since many poison-type pokemons also have dark type or the ability to fight ghosts, the performance of the ghost type is somewhat limited. However, there are still a few pokemons that performed well in the Halloween Cup, such as Jellicent, Sableye and Froslass which have the good ability to output damage or force shields in most games because of their wide convage. If the player needs the ghost type in the team, Jellicent, Sableye and Froslass will be given priority.

In addition to the above three characters, Marowak, Runerigus, and Skeledirge all have good rankings. Skeledirge has a Disarming Voice to fight with the dark type, so its high ranking is understandable, but Marowak andRunerigus are mainly aimed at specific opponents, and each has some flaws. If you really want to use them, I would recommend putting them in the back row and playing them in a targeted manner.

Dark Type

The most notable pokemons are Greninja and Mandibuzz. Greninja has very good coverage in the Halloween Cup. Except for a few characters like Tapu Fini, it can deal neutral or effective damage. This is something that glass cannon pokemons are very happy to see. In addition, since only Alolan Ninetails can use Charm in the Halloween Cup, Greninja doesn't need to spend too much effort to avoid weaknesses. The above two points make Greninja have a pretty good ranking in the Halloween Cup.

Although Mandibuzz will be completely suppressed by Carbink, if it encounters other pokemons, Mandibuzz can achieve good results by relying on its bulkness and neutral damage or effective damage. Due to its low difficulty in acquiring, it is estimated that it will often be seen in Halloween Cup, players must think about how to deal with Mandibuzz when team building.

Pawniard

In addition to the two pokemons mentioned above, because there are few characters resistant to dragons and rocks in the environment, Zweilous, Guzzlord, and Tyranitar have the opportunity to perform well in Halloween Cup. Pawniard has a lot of type resistance due to its special dark-plus-steel type. The weaknesses to fairies and bugs are neutralized by the steel-type. It is a character with a very excellent type combination in the Halloween Cup.

The rest of the pokemons have been mentioned in the introduction to the poison type Meta and the ghost type Meta, so I won’t go into details here.

Bug Type

From the perspective of types, the bug type can only be used to counter dark types. Theoretically, the appearance rate in the Halloween Cup should be extremely low. However, thanks to the benefits brought by the composite types, many bug type pokemons have also been squeezed into the Meta, the most noteworthy of which are Scizor and Wormadam (trash). The special feature of Scizor is that in addition to its rare steel-type damage output, Night Slash not only allows it to attack quickly, but also counter some pokemon with steel type resistance such as Jellicent. Overall, Scizor can be said to be an all-around pokemon which is good at both attack coverage and resistance. In addition to the excellent bulkness of Wormadam (trash), the fast move Confusion is very useful for countering poison-type opponents, and that is why it is a great choice for counterling poison-type opponents.

Forretress, Charjabug, Beedrill, and Escavalier are also very useful pokemons in the Halloween Cup. However, due to their different movesets and types, each has its own types that it is good at and not good at countering. In addition to being able to beat the dark-type opponents, Forretress and Beedrill are better at countering fairies and poison-type opponents, Charjabug is better at countering flying-type opponents such as Golbat and Mandibuzz, and Escavalier is good at countering bug-plus-steel type and poison type opponents

Spicy in Halloween Cup

There are many interesting characters that can play in the Halloween Cup. Here are some of the more interesting characters for your reference.

Dedenne
The electric type of Dedenne has the resistance of the steel type, so the Dedenne is one of the few fairies that is not afraid of steel, and can be used to counter pokemons such as the Scizor. In addition, since most Metas do not have electricity resistance and are like the GolbatBat, Toxapex, and Greninja all have weaknesses in the electric type, there must be a chance for Dedenne to perform well in the Halloween Cup.
Recommended moveset: Thunder Shock + Discharge/Play Rough

Houndstone
Houndstone is a purely ghost-type pokemon. Its types and stats do not give it an innate advantage in the Halloween Cup. However, its charged move Psychic Fangs can lower the opponent's defense. Once the opponent is dragged into a protracted battle, Houndstone will be the King of Ghosts.
Recommended Moveset: Lick + Psychic Fangs/Dig

Genesect
Genesect is also a member of the bug-plus-steel types family. Compared to Scizor, although Genesect is hard to beat Jellicent and Toxapex, its X-Scissor makes it have better performance when facing the dark type opponents. If the environment changes in the future, Genesect will be an option to consider.
Recommended Moveset: Fury Cutter + X-Scissor/Magnet Bomb
